Floor plan
An existing summer house on a steep continues slope was the starting point for this project. The old house sat in the middle of the property leaving only unusable narrow and highly sloping ground around it. A main issue was therefore to regain the property and to create flat areas with good sun conditions for outdoor activities. We placed the building on the northern property boarder leaving most of the property unexploited facing south. The biggest part of the building is dug into the slope, creating a large horizontal platform in ground level. Half of this platform is taken up by the upper floor of the building; the other half remains an open outdoor terrace in direct connection to the kitchen inside. Next to the kitchen is the living area, which, from its elevated position, faces the water view as well as the upper half of two large oak trees.
The studio, or rather a place for inspiration and creation of precious art for this Italian painter and his Swedish wife, makes an abrupt change to its traditional Swedish pitched roof neighbours. The building glitters as a golden shrine penetrated with large black windows as it sits in the rocky slope in between sculptural pine trees. – from Widjedal Racki Bergerhoff

Most of the interior fittings and furniture are special designed for the house in question.
“Less is more”, achieved by the simplistic volume of the residence and the projection of the upper level hosting the master bedroom.

Size of building: 240 sqm (180 indoors) + 20 sqm refugio. 1/3 of the villa area consists of outdoor areas under roof.
The H-shape helps creating intimate and wind protected courtyards. The main veranda is fully under roof and an open fireplace. The social areas have concrete floors and are kept a bit rough. The private bedroom section is elevated from the concrete and less rough with dark wooden floor and interiors.

Villa O in Cap Ferrat
Villa O is a contemporary rental home located in Cap Ferrat in southeastern France.
Palms and pines line the winding route down into St Jean. Pass the pretty bars and restaurants, the beret clad artists, Jean Cocteau street sculpture, the port filled with sleek yachts and families on the sandy beach.
The chauffeur turns up the private road to Villa O. And there it is - tiers of terraces, shields of glass, a tricolor of white walls, cobalt sky and pine green trees.

VilLA NM is a family getaway that was designed and built over a seven-year period, ultimately reaching completion in 2007. Built by Dutch architecture practice UN Studio, this looked like a home with a big future.
